Finance/Accounting Intern

After School Matters is a nonprofit organization that offers Chicago public high school teens high quality, out-of-school-time opportunities to explore and develop their talents, while gaining critical skills for work, college, and beyond. Our hands-on, project-based arts, science, sports, technology, and communications programs are delivered at Chicago public high schools, at community locations throughout the city, and downtown at Gallery 37 Center for the Arts.   

 

Summary of Position:

This position will work under the Accounting Manager to support the Finance team with a wide range of projects related to accounts payable; revenue processing; budget support; finance and programmatic document compliance; account reconciliation.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides support preparing monthly financial reports
  • Assist with reconciliation of asset, liability, revenue and expense accounts
  • Navigates the ASM program and financial databases
  • Collaborates with Finance team to assist with month-end close process
  • Assist Accounting Coordinator and Accounts Receivable Specialist
  • Pulls requested supporting documentation for audit requests
  • Assists with compliance requirements
  • Prepare journal entry uploads
  • Review employee credit card expenses
  • Handles sensitive and confidential information
  • Provides admin help when necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Administrative tasks, including copying, mailing, filing and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of basic principles and practices of accounting and finance
  • Desire to help internal and external customers
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent customer services skills
     

Qualifications:

  •   Enrolled as a college student in an academic institution
