After School Matters is a nonprofit organization that offers Chicago public high school teens high quality, out-of-school-time opportunities to explore and develop their talents, while gaining critical skills for work, college, and beyond. Our hands-on, project-based arts, science, sports, technology, and communications programs are delivered at Chicago public high schools, at community locations throughout the city, and downtown at Gallery 37 Center for the Arts.   

Summary of Position:

Warehouse Seasonal Support is a temporary position responsible for assisting the Warehouse staff in the picking, packing and delivering of After School Matters program supplies and equipment to assigned program locations. Warehouse Seasonal Support is also responsible for assisting in transport of materials and set-up at various events throughout the city.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment at all times
  • Using ASM Packing Slip accurately pick supplies and equipment and pack program bins with both stocked and newly ordered items
  • Ensure completeness of program bins prior to delivery by comparing program budgets with ASM Packing Slip
  • Using ASM Packing Slip, ensure all equipment and non-disposable equipment is returned at the end of the program
  • Assist Warehouse Staff in the sorting and distribution of other program-related materials, including but not limited to t-shirts, banners, posters and marketing materials, to regional spaces, partners including libraries, park districts and schools.
  • Assist in the load-in, set-up and load-out of Millennium Park summer program site
  • Assist in the load-in, set-up and load-out of annual ASM Gala
  • Warehouse maintenance: sweeping, mopping and trash disposal
  • Provide support to other ASM departments as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Ability to lift extremely heavy awkward products repeatedly to either store, remove from storage or load onto a truck.
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of frequency and intensity in other physical activities such as reaching, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling and crouching
  • Must have good visual acuity, depth perception, color vision, and peripheral vision.

  • The incumbent will be required to work both inside and outside in extremes of heat, cold and humidity depending on the season and location
  • The incumbent will be exposed to modest amounts of dust and fumes.
  • Noise level is moderate to loud

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Comfortable driving cargo vans and 15- to 25-foot box trucks
  • Good working knowledge of tech equipment, art supplies and power/woodworking tools
  • Must be highly dependable, flexible and the ability to work in a team environment. Must also be able to work long hours and weekends on short notice.
  • Customer oriented, highly energetic, outgoing and detail oriented along with ability to get along with diverse personalities.
  • Ability to follow directions, work under pressure and perform multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma and continuing education preferred.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in a warehouse situation including picking and packing orders
  • Experience with using hand and power tools.
  • Valid Illinois Driver’s License, excellent driving record and a geographic knowledge of City of Chicago area required.
  • Chicago residency required.
